link to Resources
A. Objective
1. Create a visually interesting interface for a dataspace web work. Use
either a "mapping" or "narrative" structure to present
information about your subject. Simulate the look and feel of a database
interface. Please note: this is a prototypeand will be hardcoded.
2. You must develop a logical, yet inventive navigational structure.
3. Your prototype interface can access any of the following types of information:
testimonials, reminiscences, eyewitness reports, facts, sound, and/or
images.
4. Simulate dynamically delivered information in your prototype.
Simulate is the keyword here. Given the focus of this course, I am not
interested in your database programming capabilities. I am more interested
in the structure and visual quality of your interface.
5. Pay careful attention to your screen composition, design, content,
and navigation -- this is the focus to the assignment.
B. Technical Requirements
1. Create 4 hyperlinked web pages, There must be a main page and 3 linked
example pages.
2. Delivery must be online, yet you can use any softwares/language.
Upload all files to your server space
3. Use a minimum of 15 information assets accessed through your interface
prototype. (Any combination of the following information: testimonials,
reminiscences, eyewitness reports, facts, sound, and/or images)
4. Simulate the dynamic quality of your dataspace interface.
C. Aesthetic Requirements
1. Create an interface that is both technically and visually engaging.
Make sure your navigation structure makes sense, is easily understood
by others and does not require a long explanation to use. However, this
does not mean you should create lots of Amazon.com tabs and dropdown lists.
Think outside of the box -- be creative -- experiment.
2. Play with text, color, screen real estate, and navigation metaphors.
3. Present information for your dataspace in an interesting, not boring
way!!!
4. Look at the links I've set up for some
inspiratioon and ideas.
